BEAUTY AND THE BEAKS

Beauty is the owner of The Chic Hen, a beauty parlor where she and her assistant, Gladys help the other hens on the farm to look their very best. Then one day, a new bird arrives who stretches their beautifying skills to the limit. Coming out out Fall 2007 from Holiday House.

Gladys gives Hattie a feathercut, while Beauty does a pedicure for Lucille at the Chic Hen.

This picture shows the spot where I do most of my work creating the 3-D characters for our picture books. We collected the chickens on the window ledge on our travels, but the hen standing on my drawing board is Gladys from BEAUTY AND THE BEAKS. We heat the whole studio just with wood, so in the winter time, I like my cosy spot next to the wood stove! Herm built our two story studio himself. His computer area and photo studio are on the second floor. We'll take more photos and post them soon.
